DRAFT Content for Article -- OOSTethys & Oceans IE (Phase I)

Goal: Take ideas on this page and incorporate them into a publication that showcases the activities and outcomes of this project, up to and including the OGC Oceans Interoperability Experiment (Phase I). *Anyone* with ideas on content for the article is invited to contribute to the content on this page (comments welcome). A relatively small group from the project will work to turn this into an article for publication. We're thinking about publishing in EOS, with submission target in early 2009.

  • Introduction --
    •  GEOSS and Integration of data.
    •  eGY declaration in EOS cover story on 25 Nov 2008
    •  towards IOOS - FIGURE: dots-on-the-map image from OOSTethys home page and why it's so remarkable
  • Historical background -- The grass-roots community that got together (content similar to our OGC Best Practices document)
  • OOSTethys components of success -
    • tools
      • Reference Implementations & Cookbooks -- we developed and tested them within an overall interoperability framework (FIGURE: concept design, FIGURE: information architecture architecture), and we're offering them to the community as a service
      • Test bed activities
    • community (building and interacting with)
    • working with standard organizations
      • OGC Interoperability Program -- IEs, what is OGC, with IE  are, how they work, engaging community and informing standards
      • Standards vs Best Practices -- standards can be complex, they evolve, and the community can benefit from the outcomes of the IE without actually needing to understand the complexity.
  • OGC Oceans IE
    • description
    • Major outcomes
  • Looking ahead
    • Future impact
    • Road map
    • Invite folks to use the reference implementations/cookbooks and/or contribute to Phase II.
